Eventually Catherine leaves for Paris and David settles in with Marita. Things become more complicated when another women, Marita, enters the relationship and she is both treated as a mistress for both David and Catherine, which coupled with Catherine’s need to change her gender and David’s unacceptance of it, is tearing the couple away. it doesn’t help that Catherine also intrudes in David’s writing and wants to change the narrative of his stories to reflect their life. Catherine then decides that she wants to change her gender and she does so by changing her hairstyle and wearing clothing associated with males (do remember the book was written in 1946) David, does not like this change and it creates a rift in their relationship. As my reads are chosen by picking titles out of a jar, I expected to read it well into 2024 but it came up so, well, I read it.ĭavid, an author and Catherine are newlyweds spending their ‘honeymoon’ in France. My reason for reading it was because later on this year Weatherglass Books will be publishing a novel based on Garden of Eden so I wanted to read the book beforehand. The garden of Eden is Ernest Hemingway’s last book published posthumously in 1986 thihs book surprised a lot of people for the reasons I’ll give below. While visiting the nearby park, Ghost sees a group of kids training for a track team called The Defenders. Ghost often studies a Guinness Book of World Records, given to him by Mr. Charles constantly encourages Ghost like a grandfather, always urging Ghost to do his best and break a world record. Charles, visiting him daily to buy sunflower seeds. Years later, Ghost remains loyal and friendly with Mr. Charlestook care of them and called the police, thus saving their lives. As a child, Ghost had to flee his apartment with his mother when his father, in a drunken rage, tried to kill them. Ghost is a young adult novel by Jason Reynolds which follows seventh-grader Castle “Ghost” Cranshaw as he joins a track team and struggles to deal with his past and his present.
